Success Story

XVC-S - Multi System Purchase

A company that produces Compressed Gas Transport Trailers, Bobtail Units and Storage Tanks was trying to address safety concerns with their sub-merged red arc welding process. They wanted their operator to remain on the ground and avoid the risk of falling. They contacted their local gas distributor who suggested a Weld Camera that can be installed on the welding head to address their safety concerns. The company started with a single system for testing purposes and 3 benefits were quickly established:

  1. Safety – By providing the operator with remote monitoring capabilities the operator was able to perform his job function normally while remaining on solid ground.
  2. Job Time Reductions – Ordinarily the operator is in a seat attached to the gantry and any movement whatsoever, a sneeze or turning of the head to see something below, causes the gantry to move, shaking the weld torch causing the weld to go off seam.  With the operator stationary on solid ground, the weld head stays solid on the seam and as a result, the job time to weld a lip on a tank was reduced from 4 days down to 4 hours per job due to reduced rework, improved productivity and the elimination of rejects.
  3. Technology Leap – By introducing this new technology the manufacturer saw quantum leaps in the improvement in their QC & NDE testing processes and the quality of their products in less than 6 months: increasing even more their competitive advantage over other producers.

The result:

The manufacturer purchased an additional 2 systems with further investment in longer cables and mounting equipment to address sophisticated/long term mounting requirements.

The distributor rep was viewed as a “Rock Star” for sourcing and introducing the technology and solving a very problematic issue with the added bonus of saving time and money.
